How to Increase Views on a YouTube Video or Channel
In the subtopics below, I’ve covered all of the primary YouTube promotion tactics.
Note: I’ll go through these sub-topics in greater detail in future entries in our YouTube promotion series. If you’re a professional YouTuber or want to be one, you may remain up to date by subscribing to our blog or downloading our iOS/Android app.
- Title of Video (Optimize it for more clicks)
The titles of your videos can make a big difference in whether they get a lot of views and are shared extensively, or if they only get a few. The titles of your videos are vital in determining whether or not they are viewed and shared on the Internet.
Here are some pointers for creating amazing YouTube video titles:
- Make them brief and to-the-point.
- If possible, include the current year (Ex: Best Tips for 2018).
- Make it appealing to the eye.
- Include keywords in the title’s first paragraph (where possible).
- Use “Strong Words” (Ex: Best, Awesome, Incredible).
- Use phrases that elicit strong emotions (Ex: Sensual, Lonely, Passionate, Censored).
- Make your headline title bold. Make use of this tool to assist you.
- Video Tags — Make the most of the 500-character limit.
Incorrect tag usage is one of the most common mistakes that stymies the growth of your YouTube video’s organic marketing.
Tagging in YouTube is not the same as tagging in a blog post. Now is a good moment to start paying attention to YouTube tags if you haven’t already. You can even edit all of your previous tags.
Here are some guidelines for using video tags on YouTube:
- Use a unique branded tag to ensure that your videos are displayed alongside similar videos. Use your brand name in all videos, for example. (See screenshot below.)
- As the video tag, use your important keywords.
- As a tag, use a version of your term (take help of the YouTube auto-suggest feature).
- Use the tags that high-ranking videos are using in your video. You can use the TubeBuddy Chrome addon to find tags that others have used.
Remember that YouTube video tags play an essential role in organic video ranking.
- Use a Custom YouTube Thumbnail
Custom thumbnails are only available to verified YouTube accounts. In the related video and suggested video sections, a strong video thumbnail helps you stand out.
Here are some thumbnail tips:
- Have a 1280 x 720 resolution (with a minimum width of 640 pixels).
- JPG, GIF, BMP, or PNG files are acceptable.
- Keep the file size around 2MB.
- Use a 16:9 aspect ratio whenever possible, as this is the most common in YouTube players and previews.
I don’t want to overwhelm you with technical details, but you should be aware of them in order to create a thumbnail that works effectively on both desktops and mobile devices.
- Use branding video in the intro and outro
There are a few branding steps you should do starting now to guarantee that each video stands out. Using a branded intro and outro is one of them.
- Intro to YouTube: A 3-5 second short that plays at the start to introduce your brand.
- Outro on YouTube: This can be as basic as showing relevant videos for your channel or asking people to like and subscribe to videos at the conclusion.
Creating a YouTube intro and outro video is simple, and you can do it yourself with Camtasia or hire someone on Fiverr to do it for you.
The video outro below is an example of the quality I received from Fiverr (watch this video to see the outro I had done for me by someone on Fiverr: (Until see the video outro, scroll down to 3.53 seconds.)
- Post Videos to Social Media Sites
If you’re a video blogger, your YouTube channel should have some social media properties. This allows you to build a community outside of YouTube and attract visitors from other major social media and social networking sites. These are the websites where you can advertise your YouTube videos:
- Page on Facebook
- Twitter account
- Instagram account
- Profile on Pinterest

One key point to remember is to share your movie at frequent intervals.
- Within eight months of publishing, I usually share each video at least 10-15 times. When sharing, add hashtags so that others may find them simply.
- Create a YouTube Channel Blog
If you’re a full-time YouTuber, you should consider starting a blog to complement your videos. It’s rather simple to integrate YouTube videos into a blog these days, and you can even start one.
Create a blog and use a video-specific WordPress theme, in my opinion. If you already make money from YouTube, Managed WordPress Hosting is the way to go so you don’t have to bother about blog maintenance.
You can also acquire a domain name and point it to your YouTube channel as a bonus tip. Simply provide the domain name when someone asks, “How can I find you on YouTube?” Buy a domain name for $2 with this GoDaddy discount.
- Create a YouTube playlist or add a video to one that already exists.
A YouTube playlist is an excellent approach to increase the number of views on your current videos. Add a new video to a playlist when you’ve finished uploading it (either one you create or an existing one).
Follow these instructions if you’re making a new playlist:
- Give the playlist a meaningful name and include a keyword in the playlist’s title.
- Include a descriptive description of the playlist as well as your keyword(s).
- Make a playlist with videos that are similar.
- A single video can appear in many playlists.
- Make use of CTAs
You must inform people on social networking platforms about the steps you want them to take.
Ask viewers to like and subscribe to your channel at the end of the video, or even in the midst. You can also request that they share the video with others who might benefit from it.
Most well-known YouTubers employ the “call to action” strategy to increase the number of people who see their videos. Start doing this from your next video onward if you haven’t already.
You’ll be surprised to see that merely asking your existing members increases the amount of shares significantly.
- Interview Industry Influencers
This isn’t a straight YouTube video promotion approach that can improve your channel, but it does tie in nicely with your entire channel promotion strategy.
Interviewing an influencer allows you to have access to a group that is already active in your niche. You will not only attract the attention of people who follow that influencer, but you will also be noticed by the rest of the industry.
You can narrow down the top influencers in your niche and conduct interviews with them over Google Hangouts, Zoom, or Skype. You can use Ecamm call recorder to record Skype calls. Zoom’s free edition allows you to record videos for up to 45 minutes, which is exactly what I do these days.
- Netflix’s Creator Academy
YouTube’s Creator Academy can help you learn how to get the most out of your YouTube videos (and your channel as a whole). I was amazed to learn so many growth tips and methods that I would have otherwise overlooked when I first started learning here.
- Make a video for your YouTube community (Bonus)
YouTube is quietly forming a social network, and you may use the post to community tool to promote a video. Simply select “Create post” from the Plus symbol on the YouTube site or mobile app.
Now write your message and provide a link to the video you wish to promote. To make it more engaging, you can add.gif or images, or even run a poll. Your audience can like and comment on your content, which is a wonderful indicator of increased interaction. One of the unexplored free video promotion tactics is this.
Now it’s your time…
