The company operates its own fleet of 46 aircraft (as of June 2015). What is a refundable fare?
When you book allegiant flights, there are three kinds of fares. The most common one is a non-refundable fare, meaning that you will lose your money. If you cancel allegiant flight however, some fares allow you to change your travel dates and / or get a refund in case you need to cancel them. These kind of tickets are known as refundable fares. It is good practice to look for these types of flights when booking airfare because they provide more flexibility in case anything goes wrong and it is always nice to have an option for getting some money back in case something happens and your trip ends up being canceled or postponed beyond repair.
How long can I hold on to my tickets?
So how long can you hold on to your allegiant airline tickets without any problem? The airline has a nice section on their website that answers that question. According to Allegiant’s Terms and Conditions, you can hold them for a reasonable period for no charge. The reasonable period is 30 days. If we do not cancel your flight during that time, we will automatically issue a full refund within 24 hours after cancelling allegiant flight. To get that automatic refund, you have to print out and mail in your Travel Certificate along with written documentation verifying why you need your refund.
When does the refund period start and end?
The refund period begins 24 hours after ticket purchase. However, there is a limited window of opportunity where you can obtain your refund without any additional fees or penalties. If you cancel your ticket on the same day as booking (the date you clicked buy and paid for your reservation), Allegiant allows you to be eligible for a full refund with no fees or penalties associated with it. If, however, you wait longer than one day to cancel, then that is when things get complicated. Because Allegiant Airlines has so many rules attached that vary from fare type to destination/time/cancellation details, it’s important that you know what type of allegiant air reservations you have before deciding if and when it is beneficial for you to obtain a refund through them.
Can I cancel my flight and still get a refund?
Allegiant airlines offers 24-hour grace period to cancel a flight and get a full refund. Once past that deadline, however, passengers are not so lucky. The airline requires passengers who decide they no longer want to fly on their original itinerary or date of travel to rebook their flights (and pay a change fee). You will be able to cancel allegiant flight without paying fees and penalties if you do it within three days of purchasing it but will have little recourse if you wait longer than that, although some consumers report being able to negotiate cancellation fees with customer service representatives.
