    John Dowland was born in 1563 in England & he became a famous musician, singer, music composer & most important lutenist of the Renaissance Era (1450-1600 C.E.). With his talent he has composed many songs like “Come, Heavy Sleep”, “Come Again” & many more. He has seen many ups & downs in his life. By personality, he was a depressed & gloomy person.     John Dowland Biography

    Not much is known about his childhood but according to historian W.H. Grattan Flood, he was born in Dalkey, near Dublin. In 1850 he went to Paris and he began serving sir Henry Coban, who was the ambassador of the French Court. During that time only he adopted the Roman Catholic religion and after 4 years he came back from Paris to England and got married. In 1594 a vacancy for forest lutenist came to the English court but his application failed and he thought the Roman Catholic religion is the main cause for not getting a job in the English court. So he left England and he got hired at the court of Christian IV of Denmark where he had to play kinds of music for King Christian IV.

    He was the highest-paid servant of the Danis Court Along with working in the Danis court Dowland also used to compose a bit of music which he often took to London for getting published that is why being highly recommended regarded by Christian IV also so he was not the ideal servant because he often used to take leave to publish his music. After getting dismissed in 1606 from there he returned to England. In 1612 he was appointed as one of the Musicians to James I’s lutenist. John has composed many kinds of music with different types of instruments but most of the time he used to use lute to compose his music.

    John Dowland Career:

    Dowland in his long life has composed many songs. His approximately 90 works for solo lute are available. Many of his works have become highly famous at that time. His composed Lachrimae (Flow My Tears) became the famous consort of his time. Even Now, O Now I Need Must Part, Come Again also comes under the list of some famous music critics of that time. His works were so much interesting that many kinds of music have also been available in printed forms in different books. Lamentatio Henrici Noel (1596), New Book of Tablature (1596) comes under his famous published works.

    In “Come again, sweet I love doth” the famous singer. John Dowland is describing his love who is now full of disdain for himself. The singer is inviting his love to come again in his life to live with him. As he wants to die with her only. The song written below is in the language of death.     Through this paragraph, the singer wants to tell his feeling about the service that took him away from his love. He went abroad for working thus becoming away from his lady love. Dowland distributed an interpretation of the Micrologus of Andreas Ornithoparcus in 1609, initially imprinted in Leipzig in 1517, portrayed as “a somewhat firm and middle age composition, yet regardless at times engaging”.
