Working in fashion for over 20 years, many people ask me for my tips on what to wear, how they should be wearing it, which trends to take advantage of and what’s woefully out of fashion.
As someone who principally loves fashion to express oneself and its capacity to communicate with its wearer and let the world know how the person feels, I am always reluctant to dictate to anyone what to dress or enforce any guidelines. As far as I am concerned, dressing the way you feel like – and the way you feel you is the most essential thing to do.
However, there are a couple of tricks, tips and hacks that I’ve learned over the years. From that necklace that elevates basics to regular clean-outs and changing rooms rules (‘thou should not buy on impulse’), they help me in purchasing something or getting dressed when I wake up, whether I’m working from home or getting ready to step back into a more vibrant and exciting world post lockdown.
1.) Keep It Simple
Learn from the best starting with Sade and Coco Chanel. As Mademoiselle Chanel once said”Before leaving the home, take a look in the mirror and take off one thing.’ A “base” of objects can aid.
Everyone has their own idea of what that entails but a white shirt and a nice cashmere sweater (try ) and a well-cut trench make good investments. I wear these repeatedly. Also buy hoodie and jogger set.
2) The Fit Is Everything
You know that woman who always looks pulled-together? It’s easy to see that her clothes fit her properly. By contrast, garments that don’t look right – a wonky hemline, an over-tight polo-neck, for instance – could make a difference in the first impression.
Making the effort to pay attention to the fit can improve the look of your. Make sure:
- When the seams of your t-shirt is a bit higher than your shoulder.
- A skirt zips up neatly
- The back of your shoe is where a shoe will meet. of your heel.
They’re small, but these details make a big impact. A skilled tailor is your friend here – I often purchase things and then get them altered by Rosario Tailoring in Savile Row.
3.) Find a Graphic T-Shirt That reflects how You Feel
Graphic T-shirts are perhaps the ultimate sartorial design – no matter if you’re trying to communicate your taste in music (a Beychella T-shirt) or recent boxsets (a ‘La’ T-shirt by Philip Normal).
Choose organic cotton if you can to ensure that your clothes are lasting and durable. If you’re new to this type of dress Don’t assume that graphic T-shirts have to be paired by wearing a plaid dress and sneakers. The celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski elevate theirs with high waisted trousers with ankle booties.
