Mahindra Thar Specifications
The Thar is one of the best-selling Mahindra cars in the Indian four-wheeler market. It is a five-door utility vehicle that is off-road-centric and boasts a standard all-wheel-drive system across its variants. The all-wheel-drive system makes the Thar more capable, making it sail through any terrain. However, at the same time, the Thar also gets a washable interior. That means if the car becomes soiled from the inside, primarily due to mud, you can wash it without worrying about the electronics.
As for the powertrain, the Thar shares its engine and transmission options with the new Mahindra Scorpio-N and the XUV700. But they all have different states of tune. So, this was just a starter. Now, let’s see what Thar has to offer in detail.
The Powertrain
The Mahindra Thar specifications include two turbo-powered engine options: petrol and diesel. The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine churns out 150bhp at 5,000rpm and 300Nm of torque from 1,250 to 3,000rpm with the manual transmission. The same engine, when paired with an automatic transmission (torque converter), will generate 320Nm of torque between 1,500 and 3,000rpm. That means only the torque will increase if paired with an automatic transmission.
On the other hand, the Thar also gets a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 130bhp at 3,750rpm and 300Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,800rpm. It is available with a standard six-speed manual gearbox and an optional automatic transmission.
As for the fuel economy, the Mahindra Thar mileage (as per ARAI) is 15.2kmpl for all the variants.
