After their courtship period, Prince Charles had presented Diana with an array of rings to choose from for their engagement. But she chose a Ceylon sapphire ring surrounded by fourteen diamonds. It was picked from a catalogue and not designed by her beau but it continues to be a stunning piece of jewellery. Even today, it is worn by the Duchess of Cambridge as it was her engagement ring given by Prince William.

2 – Mark Philips and Princess Anne

Army officer Mark Philips proposed to Princess Anne with a sapphire engagement ring. It was a Garrard-designed ring – a sapphire set in between two equally sized diamonds on a gold band. It was quite a statement piece and had a good price on it.

3 – Timothy Laurence and Princess Anne

For her second marriage too, Princess Anne received a sapphire engagement ring from Timothy Laurence. The blue cabochon stone is flanked by three small diamonds on each side. The ring was made of a yellow gold band. The cabochon stones have a softer finish and are quite stunning to look at.
