The Maldives is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. From adventure junkies to honeymooners to someone simply looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Maldives is an attractive destination for everyone.

The Maldives, a country situated in south Asia, has around 1192 islands, grouped into 26 atolls. Of the 1192 islands, only 200 are inhabited. And planning a trip with roughly  200 to choose from is not easy, making a trip to the Maldives rather difficult to plan.  Maldivian islands are not usually very big and each island in the Maldives has its own unique offerings.

The beach on Vaadhoo Island for instance tends to glow at night, this is provided you visit the beaches during selected months of the year when the beach has a tendency to glow. The glowing beach can be explained through a very natural phenomenon called ‘Bioluminescence’.  This basically means that light is being emitted by a living organism. The beaches in Vaadhoo Island have an aquatic microorganism called phytoplankton which is bioluminescent making the beach glow at night.

Since island hopping is not a common practice in the Maldives, be sure to read up on each island before narrowing down on the best island in Maldives for you. This is why here are a few things you should look at before choosing which island to stay on.

THREE THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND BEFORE CHOOSING WHICH ISLAND TO STAY ON

Island Resort:

Since Maldivian islands are not very big, each island usually has only one resort occupying the island. Whichever island you choose, make sure that you check out the resort on that island. Ensure that the resort offers everything you desire, be it your favorite cuisine in food, watersports if adventure is what you desire or a private beach if sunbathing and a peaceful lazy day is what you are looking for.

Distance from the Male Atoll:

Male is one of the main islands of Maldives. The Male atoll also hosts the Maldives International airport. Hence, whenever traveling to Maldives one lands in Male. Whenever you select an island make sure that you check out the distance between the island on which you are staying and Male. This is because if your resort is located on a secluded island that means extra time on the road for you. To transfer to secluded islands a seaplane is available. However, you can only travel during daylight in a seaplane so plan your flight accordingly. The view from seaplanes is beautiful but it increases travel time and travel expenditure, if you want to avoid this extra expenditure make sure the island that you select is near Male.

What all the Island offers:

When choosing Maldives island resorts ensure that it caters to all your adventure cravings. Look up whether the island that you are planning to stay on has its own good house reef. This allows you to enjoy the underwater activities from your very island.

If you are looking for island recommendations, feel free to check out Hulhumale island. This is a beautiful island located on the north of Male atoll and hosts the Maldives International airport. Hence, staying on this island will also reduce the cost of transportation and time on the road.

Hulhumale island is also home to Hukuru Miskiy. The intricate designs made on the domes and the ornate architecture are definitely worth looking at. This coral stone building is a great example of sea-culture architecture.  Those who enjoy historical places and architectural wonders will find this place really interesting. Furthermore, the Hulhumale island resort is one of the best islands in Maldives
